RPG (IBM iSeries) DEVELOPER

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
– Provide technology knowledge and innovation in the area of system development using the RPG language on IBM iSeries systems and related technologies to support the company’s global IT strategy.
– Provide system expertise, problem-solving and innovation for the appropriate application/system.
– Contribute to the delivery of technical solutions which meet specified requirements, costs, timelines and quality through liaison with key stakeholders in Project Management, Product Management, Third Parties and other Technology teams where appropriate.
– Technical lead of work packages to deliver the final solution on time and within budget
– Be a technical subject matter expert and share knowledge and expertise with others in the organisation
– Act as the technical point of contact for some aspects of the project, system or application
– Provide input and author technical specifications
– Architect and design modules, components and technical solutions which meet defined business requirements.
– Create detailed designs as part of the budget approval process and in adherence with internal project delivery processes.
– Maintain an up to date knowledge of technical standards, development methodologies, technical trends and innovations in the industry.
– Prepare accurate estimates for input into construction of proposed solution.
– Contribute to technical issue resolution and second level application support where appropriate.
– Comply to company/industry standards for quality and timeliness for the entire software delivery lifecycle (SDLC), e.g. estimates, architecture, design.
– Anticipate and proactively address technical risks before they become project issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & BEHAVIOURS REQUIREMENTS
– Educated to Degree level in a Computer Science, Maths, or a numerate discipline.
– Proven track record of delivering technical solutions on time and within budget, ideally in a travel systems environment.
– Minimum of 5 years development/integration and support experience over a wide range of technologies including iSeries (AS400) development including RPG/400, RPGIV, CLP, CLLE, ILE and SQL including an understanding of operational and performance issues.
– 2 years experience of data manipulation and presentation technologies including HTML, XML, XSLT and scripting, preferably in a travel systems environment.
– Object Orientated Design experience and capability is an advantage.
– Proactive ‘can do’ attitude.
– Excellent command of verbal and written English and excellent technical presentation skills.
– Good understanding of networking technologies.
– Ability to multitask and prioritise within a continuously changing environment.
– Proven ability to respond to requests for ‘what if’ scenarios in the estimation and design processes to support the business in decision making.
– Able to build and maintain rapport with all levels of the organisation and, where appropriate, manage project teams across different divisions and / or cultures.
– Dynamic and self-motivated with high level of energy and enthusiasm.
– Good planning skills and understanding of project management principles.
– Time management.
– Experience of commercial package evaluation and integration.
– Able to organise small virtual teams to deliver high quality technical services within aggressive timescales.
– Attention to detail and quality focused.
– Able to work under pressure.
– Some experience of most aspects of the product and software lifecycle.
– Excellent technical document authoring skills.
– Flexible and pragmatic.
– Able to assess the feasibility of technical options against project requirements.
